What are the problems with sago palm??

I am a super responder so any type of sensitivity would make me ill.

    Hi Nanciswell
If you are talking about sago (as it is called in Australia - ie. the little round balls you buy in a packet) it is probably the sulphites used to preserve the same. Cooking will usually get rid of most of the sulphites, but if you are very sensitive it may not get rid of enough for you.
    Kind Regards

I am talking about a corn free vitamin c made from sago palm by twin lab. .. Has anyone tried this to see if they react?? I do not think it would have been preserved at all using sulfites..

So far I have only found a vitamin c made from tapioca... that I can tolerate..

I found the following link that indicates that sago palm contains salicylates

    http://www.psha-inc.com/guai-support/sf/sal-free/other_databases/Sal-Full.htm

I had been taking a vitamin C powder derived from sago palm, but I have stopped taking it to see if it makes a difference.

I am also allergic to corn.

Because I am avoiding all fruits and most vegetables, I am concerned that I might become deficient in vitamin C. I have heard about vitamin C derived from tapioca, but I would need a pure powder. I cannot tolerate any fillers. Has anyone found a vitamin C powder that they can tolerate?

    Thanks Buster for the link...
I just ordered the Sago Palm.. darn I may have wasted some more money.. .. will let you know how I react..

I find the tapioca c I do react to.. I have started having it along with PHenol Assist enzymes and so far do not see the same reaction.. BUt these enzymes are very weak so do not know if I will be able to afford taking my regular high dose of Vitamin C...

I have been taking 1000 mg taken out of the capsule as I also react to gelatin with my morning supplements all which require the phenol assist.

AOR was the one I was buying but was told last week that they are discontinuing it.. Another brand called Ecological Formulas which is also a pure form.. Iherb my favourite supplements distributor has just begun to carry the Ecological Formulas one..

    Nancy,

I had been taking the sago palm form of vitamin C (Nutricology) for many years. I just stopped taking it a few days ago. I am going to try the Ecological Formulas vitamin C that is made from tapioca.

I am concerned that I will not be getting enough vitamin C with my limited diet if I don't take a vitamin C supplement. I wonder what other vitamin or mineral deficiencies might result from following a low-salicylate diet.

I have been able to tolerate two capsules of the Tapioca C taken with Phenol Assist in the morning for a whole week.. a good sign..

I empty out the C and throw away the capsule.. Most capsules are made from gelatin.. and I do react to those.

I figure it is worth the money to pay extra for the Phenol Assist enzymes I need in order to maintain vitamin levels. Some viratmins I notice immediate relief from symptoms.. Magnesium chloride oil helps brighten my mind/ day ,, zinc cures my itchy skin on my shins within a day of upping my dose..
