    So my son has been much better since I reduced salicylates, glutamates and finally realized oxalates. Just lately he seemed to back track. I thought maybe it was the potato starch in some snacks I tried to give him, that maybe he just got too much. But after going back again and researching I came across that while potatoes and the flour are no nos, the starch is low in oxalates. BUT the white rice flour I've started using is high in oxalates. How can that be is white rice is low?? Isn't the flour just ground up white rice? Every place I look for any of these foods conflict each other so I don't know what to believe. :(

    Different varieties of the same food.. IE Rice.... can contain different amounts of Oxalates.
    Wild Rice or Basmati Rice contain a lot of Oxalates but Brown Jasmine rice does not.
    Fuji Apples have a lot of Oxalates but Yellow delicious do not.

    Most of the time, you do not know what kind of rice is used in pre-made or pre - ground rice.

    You might try White Sushi Rice. You might have to buy some type of grain grinder and grind your own.

    You might also know someone who has a mill and will let you grind some rice to see if it will work before you buy a mill.

    On the Low Oxalate diet yahoo groups they have a list of foods high in Oxalates down to low. Have you down loaded that yet?
    They test different varieties of the same family of foods. Also when I was on their group, there were a lot of people with children
    who had extreme reactions to food. So much good information was shared. It is a good place to get help with like children.

    I had downloaded a food list from that site without realizing what it was. Some foods I have questions with aren't rated darn it. But I went ahead and requested membership and though I haven't had time to look in depth it seems like it's a very active forum which is nice!

    I understand the difference in different types of the same food...what doesn't make sense is I know he's ok with white rice. I feed it to him cooked, and cook it and grind it up to make homemade white rice "milk". So why would he react to white rice flour and why is it listed as high in oxalates. Isn't it the same thing?

    I can't find any sushi rice... :(

    Not sure on the white rice flour.
    I am looking on the list and found this
    (low) Flour, Rice, White, Planet Organic (GF)
    Then I also see
    (very High) Flour, Rice, White, Bobs Red Mill Stone Ground (GF)

    Is their anything else added to the rice flour?

    I had to give up on any kind of bread because I reacted to EVERY single kind of starch or additive to make the bread...

    I have huge problems with potatoes. Not sure why. My current hypothesis is carotenoids. Never used to have a problem with potatoes and carrots and green peppers. Now they are a huge no-go.

    Please remember drinking water is a key as the body stores salicylates in our liver and our kidneys (also calcium oxalates are stored in the kidneys - leading to kidney stones) - the water allows the body to flush out salicylates (and also calcium oxalates) in the kidneys through the urine. You need to minimize your intake of salicylates and increase your body's ability to remove salicylates from the body.

    During the day take a 5 oz. Dixie cup and fill it full of water. Drink it with small sips. Repeat 2 more times. The 8 to 10 glasses (8 oz.) of water a day is a fairly accurate rule to live by. Small sips as believe it or not the human body can only process water at a small clip so those who guzzle their water most of it goes straight to the kidneys for urination and not used by the body to transport vitamins and minerals. REMEMBER you can drink too much water and it can be harmful to you when you do. Be smart. But it is true you can urinate salicylates out of your kidneys by drinking water. I use tap water filtered by Du Pont carbon filter and whole house filter. You can buy a filter that adapts to your kitchen sink faucet from Lowe's, Menards, Home Depot, etc.).

    Also, rice especially brown rice has arsenic in it from the fields rice is grown in.
